"I'd never thought that such a little change would help things"

"I get so cross when I see people watering their driveways now"

Department of Sustainability & Environment: Conservation

Objective: Reduce Melbourne's water consumption.

'Our Water, Our Future'.

Action resulting from campaign:

After the first nine months:

  • Average shower length was reduced by one minute (from seven to six minutes) saving thousands of litres of precious drinking water.
  • Over 68,000 Victorians bought water saving products as part of the rebates scheme.
  • More than 50,000 Victorians requested a Water Savers' kit.
  • Over 80,000 calls were made to the Water Savers' hotline.
  • 20,000 website visits.
  • Shannon's way doesn't just change behaviour through "advertising" campaigns. We look at ideas that make changing behaviour easier.

For example, a press advertisement gave away 50,000 Water Saver Kits containing an easy to fit Shower Control Valve.
